Egyptian Deputy Prime Minister Attended the Inauguration Ceremony of Heidelberg Materials Egypt's Waste Heat to Power Project Constructed by Kesen Kenen

On September 14, 2024, Cairo time, Lieutenant General Kamel Al-Wazir, Egyptian Deputy Prime Minister for Industrial Development and Minister of Transport and Industry, Dr. Nahed Shrief, Minister of Industrial Development, and other government dignitaries attended the inauguration ceremony of the 19MW Waste Heat to Power (WHP) Project at Heidelberg Materials Egypt's Helwan Cement Plant (hereinafter referred to as "Heidelberg Materials Egypt's Project"), constructed by Nanjing Kesen Kenen Environment & Energy Co., Ltd. ("Kesen Kenen")
Lieutenant General Kamel Al-Wazir noted that the Heidelberg Materials Egypt's Project is the first innovative waste heat recovery project in Egypt's cement industry. It helps protect the environment and conserve energy, reducing costs and emissions for enterprise operations. The Ministry of Industry has consistently prioritized the compatibility of industrial development with environmental standards to promote the healthy development of Egypt's industrial system. By applying the latest technological processes from around the world in industry and adhering to the path of sustainable development, it aims to establish a pillar for achieving industrial prosperity. He praised the Heidelberg Materials Egypt's Project for its significant efforts in adopting innovative technologies to improve energy efficiency, reduce carbon dioxide emissions, and streamline the project.
He added that the Ministry of Industry supports the advancement of projects aimed at green economic transformation and improving the quality of local products, thereby enhancing Egypt's competitiveness in the global market. These efforts align with market demands and international standards to achieve the 2030 sustainable development goals, particularly in energy-intensive and high-carbon industries such as cement. The focus is on reducing energy consumption and emissions. The successful completion of the Heidelberg Materials Egypt's Project serves as a guiding example for Egypt's entire industrial system. It is hoped that more similar projects will be implemented to drive the continuous development of Egypt's industry.
Mohamed Hegazy, CEO of Heidelberg Materials Egypt, said at the inauguration ceremony that the Heidelberg Materials Egypt's Helwan WHP Project not only reduces dependence on traditional energy sources but also aligns with the company's vision of increasing the use of recycled and renewable energy to build a green tomorrow.
